Sheltie puppies are known for their intelligence, which makes them easy to train but also means they can become bored if not mentally stimulated. They thrive on learning and enjoy challenges. These puppies are highly trainable, quick to pick up commands, and can excel in various activities, including obedience, agility, and herding trials. However, because they are so bright, they require consistent training to prevent them from becoming willful or independent. Early socialization is also essential, as Shelties tend to be reserved or shy around strangers but are generally affectionate and loyal to their families.

In terms of personality, Shelties are often described as gentle, affectionate, and highly devoted. They form strong bonds with their owners and enjoy being part of family activities. Though they are good with children and other pets, their herding instincts sometimes come out in playful nipping or chasing, especially if they sense that the family is “getting out of line” or that a person or pet is moving too fast. However, with the right training and socialization, these behaviors can be easily managed.
